Q:
What is Plasti-flor™?
A: Plasti-flor™ is a truly innovative floor finish that is strong,
flexible and durable.
Q:
What makes Plasti-flor™ different from other floor coverings?
A: Plasti-flor™ tiles are not glued down. The tiles have a unique, strong
interlocking edge and are loose laid.
Q:
What sort of surface can the tiles be laid on?
A: A reasonably smooth, hard surface, like concrete, is best.
However, the tiles can be laid over almost any surface.
Q:
What equipment do I need to lay the tiles?
A: A rubber mallet and a Stanley knife (an industrial cutting
knife with a short, retractable blade) are all it takes.
Q:
How do I install Plasti-flor™ tiling?
A: Plasti-flor™ tiles are simple to install. All you need do
is align the edges and then 'clip' them together with the rubber mallet
to seal the interlock. Because the tiles are not stuck down, they can
be altered, added to or reconfigured at any time.
Q:
Can Plasti-flor™ tiles be used outdoors?
A: No. The tiles are not suitable for areas exposed to direct
sunlight.
Q:
Are there any other product exclusions I should know about?
A: Because the seam between the tiles is not waterproof, it is
not a good idea to use the tiles in any environment where they would
need to be washed down with a high-pressure hose (as in an abattoir,
for example).
Q:
Can the tiles be used in every type of manufacturing environment?
A: Yes, broadly speaking. The tiles are oil-, acid- and alkali-
resistant and are very strong and durable. However, we do not recommend
that the tiles be used in any process that involves ethyl acetate, acetic
ether or ethyl ethanoate as this reacts with PVC and attacks the integrity
of the tile.
Q:
Can the tiles be sealed?
A: Yes they can. Any one of a number of commercially available
sealants would be suitable. For best results, it is advisable that repeat
applications be applied as recommended by the manufacturer.
Q:
What is the best way to keep the tiles clean?
A: Regular sweeping, followed by a clean with a mop dipped into
water with added liquid detergent works well for small areas. Commercial
cleaning machines are suitable for larger areas.
Q:
What is Plasti-flor™ made of?
A: The tiles are manufactured from Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC).
Q:
Who manufactures Plasti-flor™?
A: The tiles are manufactured by Innovation Plus (Pty) Ltd in
Johannesburg, South Africa.
Q:
Who buys Plasti-flor™ tiles?
A:
Everyone from large industrial concerns such as motor assembly plants
to homeowners. Excellent results have been recorded at vehicle centres
where tyres, windscreens, exhausts and batteries are fitted, for example.
Besides their value as a flooring surface, there is the added benefit
of noise absorption that relieves the high sound levels that are so
much part of these environments. Motor vehicle showrooms, laboratories,
warehouses, schools and gyms also use the product to great effect. The
tiles can be used to cover the entire floor or to create 'islands' on
which equipment – heavy machinery, gym equipment, bookshelves and the
like – can be placed.
Q:
What other applications are there for Plasti-flor™ tiles?
A:
In the corporate environment, the tiles can be used to create floor
protectors under desks or in high-traffic areas. Floor protectors work
equally well on carpeted, wooden or ceramic flooring. As the tiles have
anti-static qualities, they also work well in any area where computer
equipment is used. Domestically the tiles are used extensively in garages,
dens, laundry-rooms, storerooms and kitchens. A double-garage 'kit'
comprises 40 square metres of black medallion tiling with a row of yellow
demarcation tiles separating the two parking areas. A single garage
requires 20 square metres. A Plasti-flor™ floor surface is ideal for
the home-handyman as the thickness and strength unique to Plasti-flor™
tiles ensure that they can handle whatever comes their way … from wood
shavings to welding sparks. The tiles also
make a very good floor covering in home gyms. Alternatively, using only
eight tiles, it is possible to assemble a non-slip mat for positioning
under individual items of gym equipment. Finishing with a bevelled edging
strip, in a matching or contrasting colour, would prevent tripping and
ensure that wheeled equipment could move smoothly from one surface to
another.
Q:
Tell me more about your demarcation tiles.
A: These are the same length, but narrower in width, than our
standard tiles. Available in yellow, red or blue, they are used in factory
environments to demarcate and highlight walkways, working areas, safety
equipment and the like. Many factory owners create safety areas around
heavy equipment using, say, bright green tiles. A yellow border around
the outer edge creates a visual barrier and alerts staff to the dangers
associated with straying close to machinery.
Q:
Where are Plasti-flor™ floor tiles sold?
A: All over the world. Besides Africa, the company has satisfied
customers throughout the world, including Argentina, the United Kingdom
and many more.
Q:
You don't have our corporate colour in you range. Can you help us?
A: Certainly. We'll match any colour you want.
Our only requirement is that you place a minimum order
of 260 square metres at a time.
Q:
Does a minimum quantity apply to your standard colours?
A: Not at all. You can order as little as a single square metre
if you like!
Q:
How many colours do you sell?
A: There are 4 standard colours, namely black, dark grey, light grey, and terracotta.
Q:
Are the tiles available in any other sizes besides 500mm x 500mm?
A: No.
Q:
What is the difference between the two tile finishes?
A: Our Medallion finish is the most popular for industrial use.
It has a slightly raised finish that is both non-slip and easy to clean.
Our Leathergrain finish is particularly suitable for both corporate
and domestic environments.
